SEC approves Cboe KPI event contracts with Robinhood retail fee waiver
The SEC approved Cboe's plan to list prediction-market bets tied to key performance indicators (KPIs) on Wednesday. Robinhood will distribute the newly approved contracts. Cboe waived fees for retail investors. Kalshi and Rothera had urged the SEC to delay the approval. The decision came alongside a separate win in Illinois federal court where prediction market providers and the US derivatives regulator prevailed over sports event contracts.
Robinhood holds no direct CFTC exchange license. Every prediction-market product rests on partner infrastructure. The Cboe KPI launch adds another external dependency to its existing Kalshi, Rothera, Crypto.com, and OG.com relationships. The SEC-regulated label may attract traders wary of state-court risk.
A contract dispute or regulatory action against Cboe would force immediate volume migration with no internal fallback. Competitors with direct CFTC designations can still pitch stability. Robinhood's stock trades near $113 on prediction-market growth. A single partner failure during NFL season would test whether that pricing holds.
Cboe becomes the second partner Robinhood has added to its prediction-market stack in under two weeks, after the Crypto.com and OG.com equity stakes.
