Polymarket whale loses $147K Eagles bet on last-second field goal

Published Oct 12, 2026

A Polymarket trader lost $146,700 wagering on the Philadelphia Eagles to win Sunday, standing eight seconds from a $623,449 payout before a 57-yard opposing field goal at the buzzer erased the position. The same game produced a $125,000 win for a different Polymarket user who bet $2,800 on Jacksonville at 2% implied probability with seven seconds remaining. Both trades occurred during the Jaguars-Eagles game in London.

Why this matters?

The $623,449 near-miss and the $2,800-to-$125,000 flip are the same binary risk Kalshi and Polymarket are selling against sportsbook combo pricing. Citizens Bank found Kalshi lost its single-game edge by NFL Week 3; these extreme outcomes remind traders why tighter markets matter. A 57-yard field goal is not hedgable, but slippage on the way in is. Traders weighing Polymarket against Kalshi or DraftKings' DKeX will look at which venue offers fills that do not require last-second miracles to protect capital.

The whale's loss is more instructive than the fan's win: six-figure exposure with no exit tool and no middle available. Platforms that add partial liquidity or early-cash features could capture traders who currently accept all-or-nothing as the cost of prediction-market access. FanDuel's market-maker role inside Kalshi offers one model; Polymarket's sports markets do not yet match it.

The bigger picture

The near-miss frames the pricing tension Patriots-Raiders odds split sharply between sportsbooks and prediction markets Kalshi faces: its 62% Patriots line already sits wide of sportsbook consensus, and extreme binary outcomes like this one push sharp traders toward venues with tighter fills.
