Polymarket launches private-company betting markets

Updated 6d ago

Polymarket launched prediction markets tied to private company performance and milestones last week, expanding beyond its core political and sports markets into startup outcomes via event contracts. The crypto-native platform is building out its product range while operating outside direct U.S. regulatory oversight. Separately, Gaming Today reported that Polymarket is exploring parlay-style sports contracts, though no timeline or official confirmation was provided. The private-company launch follows Polymarket's partnership with Nasdaq Private Market for pre-IPO prediction contracts and its SpaceX and Anthropic valuation contracts introduced in recent days.

Why this matters?

Kalshi must now defend its standalone sourcing model against a Polymarket that has Nasdaq-backed data on pre-IPO contracts and a fresh private-company vertical. Any persistent pricing or liquidity gap will cost Kalshi institutional flow as traders arbitrage across the two venues.

The bigger picture

Becomes the fourth Polymarket expansion move in the past week alongside Nasdaq Private Market partnership, SpaceX and Anthropic pre-IPO contracts, and CFTC sports-parlay filing, as the platform builds a parallel private-markets stack outside direct U.S. regulatory oversight.
