Novig raises funding at $2 billion valuation, lags Kalshi and Polymarket
Novig has raised new funding at a $2 billion valuation, according to The Wall Street Journal. The sports-only prediction market, which is backed by actress Sydney Sweeney, would quadruple its prior valuation. Novig operates exclusively in sports betting and prediction markets. That valuation still trails its two largest competitors, Kalshi and Polymarket. Kalshi is separately in talks to raise $750 million at a $40 billion valuation led by Sequoia and Wellington.
Novig's $2 billion valuation now looks thin against Kalshi's $40 billion target, which Sequoia and Wellington are anchoring. That gap reshapes how venture capital allocates across prediction-market platforms. Sequoia's presence signals that top-tier firms treat CFTC-registered event contracts as a winner-take-most category, not a speculative side bet. Novig must prove its sports-only focus can produce returns that justify a twentyfold valuation discount.
Sydney Sweeney's equity-for-endorsement deal is Novig's main differentiation tool against Polymarket's $15 million annual LeBron James payout. The conversion data from both celebrity models this quarter will determine which cost structure venture dollars favor. If Sweeney's equity model matches James's user acquisition without the upfront burn, Novig narrows the credibility gap. If it collapses under athlete criticism, the platform risks being priced as a tier-two player permanently.
