NBA names Kalshi and Polymarket as sponsors with new integrity framework
The NBA announced Monday that it has designated Kalshi and Polymarket as preferred prediction market exchanges and added both platforms as sponsors. The arrangement grants the two platforms rights to use league, team, and event logos in their marketing. The league also established a comprehensive integrity framework governing the partnerships, designed to protect against match-fixing and insider trading. The announcement marks a significant shift for the league, which had previously viewed prediction markets with skepticism.
The NBA's sponsorship gives Kalshi and Polymarket a marketing platform and credibility shield that smaller CFTC-registered rivals cannot replicate. League backing signals to state regulators and courts that regulated prediction markets deserve integration rather than exclusion. For Kalshi, this arrives while its federal preemption defense sits defeated in the Sixth Circuit and state enforcement actions multiply.
The integrity framework may become the template other leagues require before they risk similar partnerships. If the NFL or MLB follows with their own pacts, the political coalition against state-level event-contract bans gains institutional muscle. That pressure could push holdout states to write prediction markets into sports-gaming law rather than fight them through cease-and-desist orders.
The NBA joins a recent pattern of prediction-market legitimization that includes Kalshi's pitch of event contracts as market-direction tools and league-level structuring efforts, as regulated platforms seek institutional anchors beyond federal registration alone.
