NBA signs integrity deal with CFTC and partners with Kalshi and Polymarket
The National Basketball Association entered into a cooperative agreement with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to protect basketball integrity in prediction markets. Separately, the NBA partnered with Kalshi and Polymarket on official data and league sponsorships. The CFTC deal follows similar arrangements the NBA has with MLB and the NHL. The league's moves come as regulated platforms expand sports event-contract listings and face growing state-level legal challenges.
The NBA's dual move gives Kalshi and Polymarket a marketing and credibility shield that smaller CFTC-registered rivals cannot replicate. This matters most for Kalshi. Its federal preemption defense collapsed in the Sixth Circuit, and state enforcement actions are multiplying. League sponsorship now signals to state regulators that regulated prediction markets deserve integration, not exclusion.
The integrity framework may become the template other leagues demand before similar partnerships. The CFTC gains a stronger institutional ally as it reviews how regulated prediction markets interact with professional sports. If the NFL follows with its own pact, the political coalition against state-level event-contract bans gains weight.
