Kalshi and Polymarket launch AI compute futures to capture AI trading demand

Published Aug 24, 2026Updated 24h ago

CFTC-regulated prediction market platform Kalshi launched AI compute futures on July 14, 2026, expanding from prediction markets into forward curves for computing power. Polymarket has also begun offering event contracts on computing power this summer. The contracts track questions related to AI infrastructure demand. Both platforms are expanding beyond political and sports markets into technology-linked event contracts as the AI boom drives investor interest in alternative ways to price compute scarcity and datacenter growth.

Why this matters?

Kalshi's compute futures create a new tradable proxy for AI infrastructure demand at a moment when power futures are the only other liquid alternative. That gives institutional traders a direct hedge against datacenter buildout risk without venturing into unregulated crypto derivatives. Polymarket's parallel launch turns the category into a two-horse race for contract design standards. The winner's margin will be liquidity, and both platforms are fighting for the same crypto-native and quant-trader base that already prices compute scarcity through GPU spot markets.

CFTC oversight means these contracts trade inside federal guardrails, but that also subjects novel index construction to novel regulatory scrutiny. Any CFTC challenge to the underlying reference rate would stall rolling out adjacent AI infrastructure contracts. Rivals now face a decision: match compute exposure quickly or cede this cycle's alternative-asset narrative to Kalshi and Polymarket.
