Coinbase prediction markets reach $200 million annualized revenue in third quarter
Coinbase reported third-quarter 2026 earnings showing its prediction markets business surpassed $200 million in annualized revenue. The segment grew 82% quarter-over-quarter since launch, and Coinbase holds a 12.5% market share in the prediction markets space. The company is preparing to list its own prediction contracts, reducing reliance on Kalshi. Overall revenue fell 35% as crypto markets cooled, though net income rose 66% to $719 million. Growth in prediction markets and products including stablecoins, derivatives, and tokenized equity offset weaker spot trading activity.
The $200 million run rate makes prediction markets Coinbase's most credible growth vector as spot crypto revenue collapses. But the company faces a structural discount from Bernstein's $250 target, which treats its trading-fee model as dated against derivatives and event-contract competitors. Coinbase's planned shift to self-listed contracts is a direct response: owning the product cuts the Kalshi dependency and captures more margin per trade.
The 82% quarterly growth rate sets a high bar for Q4, and any deceleration would amplify the bear case. Meanwhile, competitors with direct CFTC licenses or faster partner integrations are winning analyst attention. The S&P-Kalshi index deal shows where institutional flow is heading. Coinbase must prove it can match that pipeline or accept a permanent valuation gap to the partnership-native platforms.
Joins Robinhood and other platforms in making prediction markets central to the retail brokerage growth story this quarter, as Bernstein's analyst coverage increasingly weights the segment over traditional trading fees.
