Trump Media and Crypto.com scrap crypto treasury and prediction market deals

Published Aug 9, 2026Updated 7h ago

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) and Crypto.com have terminated two joint projects announced earlier this year: a CRO-based crypto treasury initiative and a plan to embed prediction markets on Truth Social. The companies published the cancellation on August 9, 2026. No financial terms or stated reasons accompanied the announcement. The abandoned deals mark a retreat from TMTG's planned expansion into crypto-linked financial products.

Why this matters?

Crypto.com loses its most distinctive US distribution bet before it launched. The Truth Social marketplace would have given the exchange captive access to a politically aligned retail base without competing for brokerage shelf space. With that path gone, Crypto.com's regulated US presence depends on Nadex rails and speculative Robinhood talks where Kalshi already holds incumbent position.

The crypto treasury unwind also signals that exchange-token partnerships are reversing faster than announced, cutting off a funding model operators had treated as durable. For prediction markets specifically, the collapse shrinks the white-label partner market that Fanatics and others already bypassed by buying their own exchanges. Crypto.com must now prove its infrastructure economics can win against vertically integrated rivals who control their own user acquisition. A Robinhood deal becomes existential rather than opportunistic.
