Kalshi partners with The Weather Company on climate event contracts
Kalshi, the CFTC-regulated prediction market, is partnering with The Weather Company to offer climate-related event contracts. The deal pairs Kalshi with the weather data and forecasting firm. No financial terms or specific product details were disclosed. The partnership was announced last week. It marks Kalshi's move to deepen its data infrastructure for weather contracts, which have become a key vertical for the platform.
Kalshi now holds exclusive weather data access that competitors cannot replicate for settlement integrity. Polymarket's parallel Sportradar deal covers 20-plus sports leagues with live streaming, pressing Kalshi's weakest vertical while Kalshi defends its strongest. Traders who want verified climate contracts have one clear venue; sports traders have another.
The split concentrates each platform's user base rather than letting either dominate across categories. Kalshi's risk is product concentration: deep weather investment leaves sports and politics exposed while rivals broaden coverage. The first quarterly volume figures after both deals close will show whether data exclusivity actually moves trading flow or merely pads press releases.
The Weather Company deal is Kalshi's second major partnership this week defending its position against Polymarket's Sportradar sports expansion, following its Alpaca brokerage integration days earlier.
