Riot Games discussed Polymarket, Kalshi sponsorships for esports
Riot Games, the Tencent-owned publisher behind League of Legends and Valorant, has held sponsorship talks with prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi. The discussions were reported Wednesday. No deals have been announced. Riot operates several of the world's most-watched esports leagues, giving any completed partnership significant global reach among competitive gaming audiences. The talks mark the first known interest from a major game publisher in bringing prediction market branding into professional esports.
Riot's leagues reach tens of millions of young, male-skewing viewers who overlap heavily with prediction market's core demographics. For Polymarket and Kalshi, a Riot sponsorship would put their brands in front of an audience that DraftKings and FanDuel have spent years and billions to acquire through traditional sports.
The talks come as both platforms are escalating marketing spend: Polymarket just launched a LeBron James campaign, and Kalshi raised $1.12 billion for user acquisition. Esports offers a cheaper, less crowded channel than NFL and NBA advertising, but Riot's final terms and exclusivity demands will determine whether either platform commits. If one signs and the other walks, the winner captures a demographic rival sportsbooks have mostly ignored.
Polymarket's LeBron James partnership, announced just hours before the Riot talks surfaced, shows the platform pairing athlete deals with publisher outreach as regulated prediction markets race to lock up mainstream distribution channels before football season peaks.
