Reask to supply settlement data for ForecastEx live hurricane contracts
Reask will provide settlement data for Interactive Brokers' ForecastEx live hurricane contracts, a new class of tradeable event contract. ForecastEx, Interactive Brokers' event-contract venue, listed the climate-linked instruments alongside its existing economic-outcome offerings. The contracts let traders take positions on hurricane activity. Reask specializes in climate and natural-peril risk modeling. Pricing and execution run through Interactive Brokers' standard trading toolkit.
ForecastEx gains a credible data backbone for a contract class that lives or dies on objective settlement. Hurricane contracts require verified storm-track and intensity readings; without a trusted provider, traders price in manipulation risk and volume stays thin. Reask's climate-risk credentials give the product enough legitimacy to attract institutional interest that weather derivatives have historically struggled to capture.
For Interactive Brokers, the move extends its event-contract catalog beyond economic indicators into property-catastrophe exposure, a market with deep hedging demand. Competitors like Kalshi and Polymarket have not listed comparable natural-disaster instruments, so ForecastEx has a temporary first-mover window. The next test is whether Reask's data feeds can handle real-time storm escalation without the lag that sank earlier settlement disputes at other venues.
