Polymarket, Kalshi and Novig TV ads blocked from NBA broadcasts
Television advertisements for Kalshi, Polymarket and Novig that aired during recent MLB postseason telecasts will not appear on NBA broadcasts. NBC's NBA season openers are not expected to carry prediction market spots. The decision comes as the NFL continues to prohibit such advertising and has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to ban sports event contracts not regulated by states. No party has claimed responsibility for the NBA ad exclusion, and no stated reason has been disclosed.
The NBA block shrinks the safe advertising inventory prediction markets can buy just as Novig's Sydney Sweeney campaign proved celebrity marketing narrows available channels. Kalshi, Polymarket and Novig now face a tighter squeeze: sports leagues control the broadcast slots that reach mass bettors, and two major leagues have closed their doors.
The NFL's Supreme Court push against CFTC-regulated event contracts gives league broadcasters political cover to refuse ads on any event contract, state-regulated or not. Platforms must pivot to streaming, social, or sportsbook cross-promotion — each costlier and less proven for acquisition. The first platform that finds a repeatable workaround captures a permanent marketing edge while rivals burn cash on inefficient channels.
The ad block deepens the commercial pressure Kalshi already faces from the NFL-backed Supreme Court petition and the CFTC's pending swap-rule proposal, which would force product restructuring if adopted.
