Kalshi promotes World Cup contracts in video, lists announcer-mention market

Published Jul 7, 2026Updated 66d ago

Kalshi posted a Facebook video promoting its World Cup event contracts with the tagline 'Trade the World Cup with the U.S.' on July 5, 2026. The video referenced matchups including Brazil versus Norway and Haaland versus Gabriel. On the same day, Kalshi listed a prediction market on what announcers will say during the Argentina versus Egypt World Cup match, to be resolved using broadcast video. Separately, Gambling Insider raised questions about Kalshi reportedly providing market-making services to ADI Predictstreet and sending trading volumes its way ahead of the tournament.

Why this matters?

Kalshi is using novelty markets and social video to capture retail attention during the World Cup window, but the announcer-mention contract offers no tradable edge without disclosed volume or open interest data. Retail traders cannot verify whether the price reflects genuine liquidity or thin-book skew. Meanwhile, the reported ADI Predictstreet market-making arrangement raises questions about whose capital is backing the order book.

For Kalshi, the risk is visibility without verifiable tradability as institutional market makers already compare its transparency unfavorably to Polymarket's disclosed proof points. A retail trader burned on an illiquid novelty market becomes evidence for state attorneys general probing whether these contracts function as derivatives or as prohibited wagers.

The bigger picture

Brings the running count of World Cup-linked product moves to at least four across Kalshi and Polymarket's $45 billion June volume surge, the $30 billion monthly record, plus500's launch, and now this announcer-mention market.
