Kalshi weather markets price Northeast rain and Big Sky snowfall
Kalshi is pricing event contracts on weekend rain chances in the Northeast, with markets showing an 82% probability for some areas ahead of an expected severe storm system. The contracts break down precipitation odds by location as heavy rainfall approaches. Separately, Kalshi is offering snowfall contracts for Big Sky, Montana, in December as early winter weather arrives. The platform continues expanding its weather-vertical offerings beyond sports and political event contracts. Neither source disclosed contract prices, trading volume, or open-interest figures for these weather markets.
Weather contracts diversify Kalshi's revenue away from the sports parlays that now drive almost all of its headline volume. That concentration has become a liability: Ohio and Tennessee courts are already applying state gambling laws to similar multi-leg products, and any forced redesign would erase the notional figures that dominate its press coverage. Weather markets carry none of that legal exposure.
They also draw a different trader profile than sports bettors or political speculators, broadening Kalshi's user base without deepening its dependence on football seasonality or FanDuel's liquidity bridge. The platform still needs weather volume to reach material scale, but each new meteorological vertical builds a hedge against the regulatory crackdown threatening its core product. Competitors have not matched this weather breadth. Kalshi's first-mover position here becomes more valuable if sports contracts face court-ordered restrictions.
Joins Kalshi's near-$4 billion parlay-driven daily volume and its NFL pricing battles with FanDuel and DraftKings as evidence the platform is simultaneously pushing into new verticals while its core sports business faces legal and partnership risk.
