Trump escalates support for Mazzei in Oklahoma runoff after prediction markets missed first round
Kalshi traders are pricing Mike Mazzei at roughly 80% to win Oklahoma's Republican gubernatorial runoff over Attorney General Gentner Drummond as voters head to the polls. Mazzei entered the GOP primary as a near-90% prediction market favorite but finished just behind Drummond, forcing Tuesday's runoff. Former President Trump has escalated his support for Mazzei after that first-round miss. Both Kalshi and Polymarket have again priced Mazzei at roughly 78%, setting up another test of whether prediction markets and a presidential endorsement can overcome a close Republican electorate.
The 78-80% repricing repeats the same structure as the primary: heavy favorite, thin margin, Trump endorsement layered on top. Traders who bought Mazzei at 90% and held through the first-round miss are already burned, and the runoff line offers no transparency on whether new conviction or old positions drive the print.
For Kalshi, the pattern is regulatory baggage: the CFTC's hedging-purpose review sharpens when political contracts compress to near-certainty twice in one race and miss both times. Oklahoma rerun that ends in another upset deepens the case that these markets chase narrative, not probability, and weakens the argument for institutional liquidity to return after November.
