Polymarket affiliate PM Derivatives wins NFA approval as futures commission merchant

Published Nov 3, 2026Updated 12m ago

Polymarket affiliate PM Derivatives, LLC received approval Monday, November 3, 2026, from the National Futures Association to operate as a futures commission merchant. The National Futures Association is the self-regulatory organization for the US derivatives industry. The approval allows PM Derivatives to act as an intermediary for futures and options transactions. However, CFTC approval is still required before PM Derivatives can actually operate as a futures commission merchant.

Why this matters?

The NFA approval puts Polymarket deeper into the regulated derivatives stack at a moment when federal registration is becoming the main shield against state gambling lawsuits. Polymarket already owns a CFTC-regulated designated contract market through QCX LLC. Adding an in-house futures commission merchant would let it clear its own trades and keep the full economics, matching the vertical integration Sporttrade just cleared.

That cost edge matters as spreads compress and state attorneys general in Ohio, Tennessee, Missouri, and Illinois tear at federal preemption. The CFTC sign-off that still awaits is now the binding constraint. Each week of delay is a week where Kalshi's parallel fights in multiple states set template law that Polymarket may face next.
