Plus500 partners with Kalshi on CFTC-regulated contracts amid state challenges

Published Jul 31, 2026

Plus500 partnered with Kalshi earlier this year to offer retail access to CFTC-regulated event contracts through the Plus500 Futures platform. The partnership comes as states challenge the CFTC's oversight framework for prediction markets. Kalshi separately lists CFTC-regulated event contracts tied to scheduled economic data releases and Federal Reserve policy decisions, including markets on the Fed funds rate, CPI inflation prints, and jobs reports.

Why this matters?

The Plus500 partnership gives Kalshi a second retail distribution channel just as its primary business faces fragmentation. State courts in Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington, and New York have rejected federal preemption, forcing Kalshi to geofence users market by market. Traders who accessed Kalshi directly now find contracts voided in some states while Plus500 offers the same instruments in others. That inconsistency undermines the value of CFTC registration as a national standard.

Kalshi must now defend its model on dual fronts: proving contracts are swaps in federal court while Plus500 absorbs the operational cost of state-by-state compliance. The partner's regulatory team becomes Kalshi's de facto state-law shield, and any state action against Plus500 would test whether white-label distribution deepens or dilutes liability. For Polymarket, which holds identical CFTC registration, the Kalshi playbook previews its own partnership options.
