Kalshi backs NYC bar's Knicks tab promo as user disputes parlay payout
Prediction-market platform Kalshi backed a New York City bar's promotion to cover customers' tabs contingent on a Knicks victory, framing the giveaway as a small-business hedging pilot. Kalshi said the bar would still have collected 'abnormally high revenue from the promotion' had the Knicks lost. Separately, a Reddit user on the Kalshi subreddit posted about disputing the outcome of a 14-leg NBA Finals parlay, saying customer service offered a different interpretation of whether the bet won; the post contained no resolution or dollar amount. The bar promotion was first reported June 4, with coverage through June 6 emphasizing the contrast between hedging and speculation for small businesses.
Kalshi must prove Main Street hedging can scale beyond one-off publicity stunts to offset volume being poached by Rothera on Robinhood's World Cup flow. Any failure to convert bar promotions into recurring small-business demand will leave the exchange dependent on retail sports traders already migrating to sharper-priced rivals.
Brings the running tally of Kalshi distribution partnerships to four this year — Moomoo, Wintermute, Robinhood, and now a bricks-and-mortar bar — as the exchange tests whether Main Street hedging can anchor new volume beyond its existing retail trading base.
