Kalshi expands 15-minute markets beyond crypto with gold and silver
Kalshi has expanded its 15-minute prediction markets beyond crypto to include contracts on gold and silver prices. The short-duration contracts went live on the platform Monday. Kalshi ultimately aims to offer similar 15-minute markets for equities, pending regulatory approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The expansion adds precious metals to a product line that already includes crypto price predictions.
Kalshi is staking out a speed layer that neither Polymarket nor traditional futures venues currently offer. Fifteen-minute contracts on gold and silver give retail traders a way to express intraday views without the margin or contract size of CME micro-futures. The platform needs this to diversify beyond sports and politics, which face a bipartisan Senate bill to ban such contracts nationwide.
If the CFTC approves equity versions, Kalshi would be first to market with regulated stock-prediction sprints. Traders should track whether these metals contracts attract real two-sided flow, or merely serve as a regulatory stepping stone. Thin liquidity would expose the platform to the same execution-quality complaints that have dogged its celebrity-event markets.
Kalshi's gold and silver launch follows its CFTC filing for precious-metals perpetual futures earlier this week, showing the platform is building both short-duration event contracts and longer-dated derivatives on the same underlying commodities.
