CBS News Sunday Morning spotlights Kalshi ahead of midterm elections
A CBS News Sunday Morning report highlighted political prediction market Kalshi as platforms position the 2026 US midterm elections for mainstream visibility. Separately, a study of search results for midterm election queries found prediction markets appeared in roughly half of sampled forecast searches. Kalshi dominated odds-related searches, appearing on all 28 pages for 'senate odds' and 'midterm odds.' Polymarket owned forecast-related searches, while Kalshi appeared on only 6% of forecast pages.
The CBS segment and search dominance give Kalshi the narrative lead in a two-platform race for political credibility. Kalshi's oddsmaker positioning matters because state attorneys general in Ohio and Tennessee already reject federal preemption, and a high-profile midterm miss would give them fresh ammunition. Polymarket's forecast territory is harder to monetize and more scientifically exposed.
The split is not academic: Kalshi CEO Mansour has framed 2026 as the first prediction-market election, and CBS odds become public memory faster than exchange prices. Each mainstream integration raises the cost of a credibility failure. State courts move on their own clock, and voter perception hardens well before any regulator acts.
