Kalshi and Polymarket pile on media deals ahead of midterms
Kalshi and Polymarket pursued media partnerships as the November 2026 midterm elections approached. Bloomberg reported that prediction markets have become a growing revenue source for media companies ahead of the vote. Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro disclosed a Kalshi sponsorship on X on October 29. Polymarket listed 500 midterm election markets with $46.8 million in volume, with its House market pricing Republican control at 93%. Newsweek tracked prices on both platforms during former President Trump's October campaign rallies.
Media partnerships now expose both platforms to a double liability that will crystallize within days of the election. Kalshi's deals with Shapiro, Bloomberg, and CBS News push its odds to audiences who cannot distinguish trading prices from forecasts; Polymarket's volume concentration in political contracts does the same. Any major pricing miss will punish retail entrants and platform credibility together.
State attorneys general in Ohio and Tennessee have already stripped federal preemption for event contracts, and a high-profile midterm error would give them fresh evidence that these contracts are gambling dressed as forecasting. For operators, the media halo becomes a litigation target the moment a headline number proves wrong.
