Kalshi users place $709 Ballon d'Or bet, $403 LaLiga wager on Barcelona
Kalshi users placed large individual bets on soccer outcomes in early August, including a $709 wager on Lamine Yamal to win the Ballon d'Or and a $403 bet on Barcelona to win LaLiga with a potential $810 payout. Separately, Kalshi posted that Harry Kane's Ballon d'Or probability hit an all-time high of 59%. All three items were flagged by Kalshi's sports-focused social accounts, which have been highlighting individual tickets and percentage moves without disclosing book depth or volume.
These large tickets are anecdote, not evidence of liquid markets. A single $709 bet moves no book if the rest of the pool is thin, and Kalshi still publishes no spread or depth data. That opacity lets retail traders see headline percentages and flashy payouts they cannot verify. Institutional desks skip the venue entirely.
The pattern is now repetitive: Kalshi's football vertical runs on social engagement, not proven liquidity. Every undocumented price point feeds a credibility gap that Schiff-Curtis sponsors and CFTC staff can mine to frame event contracts as gambling instruments. Kalshi's sports ambition is real, but the growth hits a ceiling without structural transparency.
This is the fourth Kalshi soccer-price post in under two weeks without volume or depth data, after similar posts on Harry Kane at 57%, Vinicius-to-Arsenal, and Julian Alvarez transfer odds.
