ION and Coinbase partner to clear Kalshi event contracts
ION has partnered with Coinbase to clear event contracts for Kalshi using ION's XTP for Event Contracts platform, the companies announced September 9. The integration connects ION's traditional market infrastructure, Coinbase's clearing capabilities, and Kalshi's regulated prediction market. ION's XTP platform for event contracts went live in April 2026. Futures Commission Merchants will be able to run event contracts alongside existing exchange-traded derivatives alongside this offering.
This deal gives Kalshi a second major clearing backbone alongside its existing infrastructure, reducing the operational risk of any single point of failure. For Coinbase, it extends the exchange's clearing services beyond crypto into CFTC-regulated derivatives, opening a new revenue line tied to prediction-market growth.
ION gains a flagship client for its XTP event-contract module launched just five months ago, and the partnership signals that traditional market infrastructure providers now view prediction markets as a permanent product category worth tooling for. The integration's success will be measured by how quickly Futures Commission Merchants adopt the combined stack, and whether Kalshi can use the added capacity to scale contract volume without clearing bottlenecks.
