76ers become first NBA team to partner with Kalshi
The Philadelphia 76ers have signed a deal with Kalshi, becoming the first NBA franchise to partner with a prediction market operator. The partnership was announced October 30, just days after the NBA reached partnership agreements with prediction market operators Kalshi and Polymarket. The collaboration will feature new content, though deal terms and timing remain undisclosed. Basketball star LeBron James has separately disclosed ties to Polymarket, a competing CFTC-regulated prediction market platform.
The 76ers deal extends the NBA's prediction market embrace from league level down to individual franchises, giving Kalshi a team-specific marketing platform that Polymarket lacks. Team deals put Kalshi branding inside arenas and broadcasts, reaching fans who may never visit a CFTC-regulated exchange directly. That retail pipeline matters because Kalshi faces state enforcement in Utah, Ohio, and Tennessee, and needs volume growth to justify its $40 billion valuation.
The 76ers partnership also tests whether NBA teams will build Kalshi into ticket packages or fan loyalty programs, revenue streams beyond simple trading fees. If other franchises follow, Kalshi gains localized marketing muscle that state-by-state lawsuits cannot easily shut down. The NFL's isolation on league opposition looks starker each time an NBA entity normalizes prediction markets.
The 76ers deal extends the NBA's rapid shift from prediction-market skeptic to active promoter, a turnaround that fractured unified league opposition and left the NFL standing alone against CFTC-regulated event contracts.
