Top 2025 World Series Contenders, According to Wisdom of the Crowd

Listen to this article now

Through the first week of the 2025 MLB season, the Yankees’ torpedo bats have taken most of the headlines. And understandably so—the Yankees, who are 4-2, have hit a whopping 22 home runs in six games.

However, sports prediction markets—where users trade contracts on future events—have actually cooled on the Yankees’ World Series prospects.

Sure, it’s stil early. Most teams have only played six of their 162 games schedule, but it’s never too early to start making bold World Series predictions (or, in my case, World Series trades)

Here are the top 2025 MLB World Series contenders, according to market prices.

Los Angeles Dodgers (28%)

The Dodgers are the reigning World Series champions and have bolstered their roster with significant acquisitions, including two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell and Japanese pitching sensation Roki Sasaki. Their impressive start to the season, with an 8-0 record, is not the least bit surprising considering their lineup is deeper than a Shakespearean tragedy.

The Yankees, perennial powerhouses in the American League, have faced early setbacks, including the loss of ace pitcher Gerrit Cole to injury. Nevertheless, their potent lineup and now innovation (thank you, torpedo bats) keep them in the championship conversation as AL favorites.

Philadelphia Phillies (7%)

Building on recent successes, the Phillies have emerged as strong contenders in the National League East. Their balanced roster and strategic offseason moves have enhanced their championship prospects and are already paying dividends as they spring to a 5-1 start.

Atlanta Braves (6%)

Despite a challenging start to the season (0-7, yikes), the Braves remain formidable contenders in the National League. Their roster depth and recent postseason experiences position them as strong candidates for a deep playoff run. If they can get the bats going, they’ll be just fine.

New York Mets (6%)

With significant investments in their roster, including the acquisition of star outfielder Juan Soto, the Mets are aiming to challenge their division rivals and make a deep postseason run.

Baltimore Orioles (5%)

After back-to-back playoff appearances, the youthful Orioles are ready to fly out of their nests once and for all and make a major splash in the postseason. They are 3-4, but expect the wins to pick up sooner than later.

Texas Rangers (5%)

The Rangers are 5-2 and looking to recapture their 2023 magic with the help of two rising stars on the mound, Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker. Jacob deGrom, of course, is the clubhouse ace.

Boston Red Sox (4%)

At 3-4, the Red Sox are hoping Alex Bregman’s bat can ignite their offense as they look to rebound from a disappointing 2024 season.

Houston Astros (4%)

The Astros hope to reestablish themselves as formidable threats in the American League. They will have to do so with a new look, after losing four pivotal members from their 2022 World Series team. That shouldn’t be an issue with Yordan Alvarez, Jose Altuve, and top prospect Cam Smith.

San Diego Padres (4%)

The Padres are 7-0, hot on the Dodgers’ heels. With a lineup that’s firing on all cylinders, they’re making a strong case in the NL West. I really like the idea of “buying low” on Padres right now, as I expect their World Series chances to only increase as we go further into the season.
