The Woman in the Yard — no, it’s not just another nosy neighbor sighting. It’s an upcoming horror film set to hit U.S. theaters on March 28, 2025.

The film is the latest horror movie to attempt the haunting trope in a relatively short 87-minute run time. Users have been betting on the film’s Rotten Tomatoes score on the top prediction platform Kalshi since Feb. 24, 2025.

As of March 18, 2025, the highest forecasted score was 61.8 and currently lies at its lowest point of 52. Before the market closes on March 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., ET here’s what you need to know about The Woman in the Yard.

What is ‘The Woman in the Yard’?

The Woman in the Yard is the latest horror film produced by Jason Blum under his production company Blumhouse Productions. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Sam Stefanak.

A lone, spectral woman shrouded entirely in black appears on a family’s front lawn without explanation and warns them “today’s the day.” Where did she come from? What does she want? When will she leave? Only The Woman in the Yard knows.

Danielle Deadwyler leads the movie right after a Screen Actors Guild and Critics’ Choice Awards nominations for her acclaimed role in The Piano Lesson. Joining Deadwyler are Okwui Okpokwasili, Russell Hornsby, Peyton Jackson, and Estella Kahiha, rounding out the film’s cast.

Critical reception of Blumhouse movies

Blumhouse Productions has been behind many popular films in its 25-year history. But how did they perform with critics?

Since 2023, Blumhouse Productions has produced 15 films. 2023 was a very strong year for them with four strongly rated films but they also had three films with Rotten scores.

Unfortunately, 2024 was a different story. Of the five films released, only one film did not receive a Rotten score. While 2023 had an average score of 66, last year’s average score was a very low 37.6.

The production company has already released a film this year – Wolf Man – and it also received a Rotten score. These are not good signs for The Woman in the Yard.

Collet-Serra has directed horror movies in the past but his Rotten Tomatoes record is not consistent – his scores range from 28% to 87%. He directed last year’s popular holiday Netflix Original film Carry On, which scored a Certified Fresh score of 87. However, that is more of a thriller than a horror film.

Unfortunately, his previous two movies scored 30% and 39%. His up-and-down scores make it difficult to predict The Woman in the Yard’s critical performance.

Early reviews of ‘The Woman in the Yard’

There are no early reviews of the film, but there is another bad sign. There won’t be any screenings for the press until the same night it gets released to the general public.

This is typically not a good sign for movies because it implies the film company doesn’t want poor critical reception to sway box office sales.

While there are no early reviews yet, the trailer has sparked reactions — but those can only tell us so much and don’t necessarily reflect the film itself. Some users are excited to see a horror film with an all-black cast or are excited to see the film in general.

A Reddit thread about the trailer was filled with mixed reactions. Many ridicule the title of the film and the literal “woman in the yard” haunting the family.

A potentially good sign is that Deadwyler has made strong choices with her films in the past All of her films have had a score of 75 or above. In fact, of the seven projects with a Rotten Tomatoes score, five received a Certified Fresh score.

The concerning lack of press screenings and Blumhouse’s recent string of poorly-received horror films are all negative signs, but Deadwyler’s strong track record and director Collet-Serra’s recent success with “Carry On” suggests there’s still a chance that the film performs well.
