Top US Netflix TV show this week?

Last week’s chart topper, American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden, dropped to the runner-up position with Sirens taking the first spot. However, this week has a handful of new projects that can challenge Sirens, including Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders, Dept. Q, F1: The Academy, Mad Unicorn, and Mike Birbiglia’s comedy special, The Good Life.

Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders (Limited Series)

  • Release Date: Monday, May 26, 2025
  • Runtime: 3 episodes — about 35-40 minutes each

Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders may be the strongest contender for this week’s television shows. The series consists of only three episodes, each with relatively short run times, which will be highly advantageous since Netflix calculates the charts by dividing the total viewing time by the project’s runtime.

Moreover, with its release at the beginning of the week and U.S. viewers’ recent infatuation with docuseries, Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders is not to be ignored. As of May 28, the series was already No. 1 on its first two days of the new week.

Dept. Q (Season 1)

  • Release Date: Thursday, May 29, 2025
  • Runtime: 9 episodes – about 45-60 minutes each

After creating, writing, and directing Netflix’s massive hit The Queen’s Gambit, A. Scott Frank is back with his newest Netflix series, Dept. Q. Based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s book series, this crime thriller is highly anticipated, and many believe it will be a high-quality project given the strong track record of its creator. However, given its longer runtime, it may struggle to compete with Sirens and Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders.

F1: The Academy (Season 1)

  • Release Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2025
  • Runtime: 7 episodes — about 30-40 minutes each

Netflix is continuing to bank on the success of its original viral Formula 1 hit, Drive to Survive. Produced by Reese Witherspoon‘s production company, Hello Sunshine, the project aims to put a woman in the seat of a Formula 1 car. A woman hasn’t competed since Susie Wolff raced in 2014. If the series can capitalize on the success of Formula 1 fans, it can perform well; however, it will still face the challenge of overcoming stronger competitors.

Mad Unicorn (Limited Series)

  • Release Date: Thursday, May 29, 2025
  • Runtime: N/A

Mad Unicorn is the latest project from Netflix Asia. This time, it’s a Thai series set in the city of Bangkok. The series is inspired by the true story of Thailand’s first unicorn startup. Mad Unicorn is a rags-to-riches story, but given that the series is from Thailand, it may struggle to capture American audiences.

Mike Birbiglia: The Good Life (Comedy Special)

  • Release Date: Monday, May 26, 2025
  • Runtime: 77 minutes

The Good Life is Mike Birbiglia’s fourth Netflix comedy special. His last Netflix special, The Old Man & The Pool, received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. Following his father’s stroke, Mike Birbiglia reflects on his role as a son and a father in The Good Life. While his last special got award attention, it doesn’t necessarily mean his special will perform well on the Netflix charts, especially with bigger projects being released this week.

What happened last week in movies (Top 10 movies)

  1. Untold: The Fall of Favre
  2. Instant Family
  3. The Wild Robot
  4. Nonnas
  5. Fear Street: Prom Queen
  6. A Deadly American Marriage
  7. Home
  8. Despicable Me 4
  9. Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds
  10. I Still Believe

Top US Netflix movie this week?

After Vince Vaughn’s Nonnas was at the top of the charts for two weeks straight, this week the film dropped to No. 4. Surprisingly, Untold: The Fall of Favre was able to overcome all of its competitors and early favorite Instant Family last week. While there are two new additions this week, it will be challenging for these movies to surpass The Wild Robot, which was released on Saturday but managed to claim the No. 3 spot for the week.

A Widow’s Game (2025)

  • Release Date: Friday, May 30, 2025
  • Runtime: 90  minutes

The latest Spanish project on Netflix, A Widow’s Game, is a crime drama. About a month ago, Exterritorial, a German action film, was at the top of the Netflix charts. Clearly, foreign crime and action films can perform well on Netflix. However, The Wild Robot is likely to blow any competition out of the water.

Lost in Starlight (2025)

  • Release Date: Friday, May 30, 2025
  • Runtime: 96 minutes

While anime is widely seen as a Japanese medium, Netflix is releasing a South Korean anime film, Lost in Starlight. It follows a romance in which an astronaut leaves Earth to travel to Mars. However, the series hasn’t received extensive press coverage yet. It seems unlikely that the unknown anime can overcome the power of the Oscar-nominated animated movie, The Wild Robot
