What is ‘Daredevil: Born Again’?
Daredevil: Born Again is the newest Marvel/Disney+ TV series in the MCU and is part of Phase Five. It is the 13th television series in the MCU. Unlike other Marvel series, this is a revival of Marvel Television’s Daredevil, which was released on Netflix.
Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.
The show’s cast includes Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Zabryna Guevara. After the series was canceled on Netflix in 2018, Daredevil reappeared in Spiderman: No Way Home (2022).
Critical reception of the MCU TV series
Superhero movies and series are notorious for performing unevenly with critics. They can be hit or miss. Let’s take a look at how past MCU TV series performed with critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
TV Series | Rotten Tomtaoes Sscore |
Wandavision (2021) | 92% |
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) | 85% |
Loki (2021) | 87% |
What If…? (2021) | 85% |
Hawkeye (2021) | 92% |
Moon Knight (2022) | 86% |
Ms. Marvel (2022) | 98% |
I Am Groot (2022) | 89% |
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) | 79% |
Secret Invasion (2023) | 53% |
Echo (2024) | 70% |
Agatha All Along (2024) | 84% |
While superhero movies like Eternals (47%) or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (29%) do not always perform well with critics, MCU television series have a good track record.
Only one of their twelve series has received a Rotten score, and the shows have an impressive average of about 83%. This is a very strong sign for Daredevil: Born Again; however, it’s not enough to determine that it will perform well.
Another potentially good sign for the series is that the two lead directors of the show have past experience with MCU shows. The lead directors, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, have both worked on Loki and Moon Knight in the past. Both shows were positively received
Early reviews of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
One concern with the series is the creative overhaul it underwent during production. In 2023, after completing six episodes, the studio wasn’t satisfied with the direction and decided to make changes, leading to the departure of creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord.
There was a lack of direction regarding whether they should completely ignore the original series’ storyline or connect the two. After major reshoots in 2024, the studio was pleased with the changes. This could indicate that the problematic elements were addressed, or it may suggest the show still has quality issues to overcome.
The review embargo will be lifted on March 14, 2025, the same day as the release of the series, but the social media embargo was lifted back on February 24.
TV critic Dirk Libbey calls the series “powerful, emotional, and endlessly compelling.” And content creator Leo Rydel thinks the series is “ON ANOTHER LEVEL!” The early social media reviews are overwhelmingly positive, with many referring to a return to a high quality of Marvel content.
I just finished #DaredevilBornAgain and it is quite simply the best thing I've seen in a long time. Powerful, emotional, and endlessly compelling. Cox and D'Onofrio are simply perfect. You guys are going to love it. pic.twitter.com/8zN6bYmqE7

It looks like Daredevil is truly Born Again—not just in name, but in critical reception. With glowing early reviews and strong prediction market confidence, the series seems poised to deliver a comeback worthy of the “Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.”
